Consulting

Solving the operational and strategic problems between where the business is and where it's trying to go.

Hev works with small and growing businesses that have reached the point where ambition has outgrown existing capacity. She helps identify what's actually holding the business back, determine what needs to change, and build the strategy, systems, and infrastructure to move it forward.

The capacity gap

The business needs more than the current team can carry.

Many growing businesses reach a point where the owner can no longer personally hold everything together, but another senior full-time hire isn't needed, wanted, or financially justifiable yet.

That's the gap Hev works in.

Depending on what the business actually requires, the work may move between diagnosis, strategy, systems, operations, implementation, and growth.

01How Hev sees the business

Small businesses rarely experience their problems neatly divided into departments.

A company may come to Hev because leads aren't converting, an initiative keeps stalling, the owner is overwhelmed, clients are falling through cracks, or the team needs a better system.

The visible problem is the starting point, not necessarily the diagnosis.

Hev looks across the business to understand how the pieces affect one another, identify the actual constraint, and determine the highest-leverage next move.

Diagnosis comes first: how work actually moves, where information is lost or duplicated, and where follow-up falls through.

A lead-generation problem may actually be an offer problem. A service problem may actually be a process problem.

02Areas of work

Four lenses, not four services.

Engagements rarely stay inside one of these. Hev moves between them depending on what the business actually needs next.

01

Strategy + clarity

  • What are we actually trying to accomplish?
  • What is happening now?
  • What is getting in the way?
  • What matters most?
  • Where is the highest-leverage opportunity?
02

Operations + systems

  • Workflows, intake, and handoffs
  • Internal systems and documentation
  • Communication processes and tracking
  • Customer journeys and tooling
  • Processes that depend too heavily on the owner
03

Growth + business development

  • Offer development and positioning
  • Lead-generation strategy
  • Sales process, partnerships, and referrals
  • Customer acquisition pathways
  • Customer experience and revenue opportunities
04

Implementation

  • Build and configure systems
  • Develop workflows and processes
  • Research and evaluate solutions
  • Build digital infrastructure and document operations
  • Coordinate, test, and refine based on what actually happens

See what's happening. Identify the constraint. Build what the business needs.

Useful strategy shouldn't end with recommendations. What gets built is a defined operating flow — clear stages, clear ownership, and follow-up that holds.

03 / Engagement models

Three ways companies engage Hev.

01

Project consulting

For a defined problem, initiative, opportunity, system, or business objective. Hev assesses the situation, establishes scope, and works toward an agreed outcome or set of deliverables.

Project pricing reflects scope, complexity, responsibility, deliverables, and business context, not hours.

02

Embedded / fractional consulting

For businesses that need ongoing strategic and operational capacity without adding another full-time employee. Hev becomes embedded enough to understand the business, its priorities, constraints, and opportunities.

Structured as a monthly retainer that reserves an agreed level of Hev's capacity and involvement. Every retainer carries a defined scope, responsibilities, expectations, boundaries, and terms. It is not a bucket of labor hours, and it is not unlimited access.

03

Strategic advisory

For owners and leaders who primarily need perspective, analysis, decision support, or recommendations rather than ongoing execution: assessments, strategy sessions, problem-solving engagements, planning, and focused intensives.

Often a lower-commitment starting point before deciding whether a larger engagement makes sense.

Expertise over hours.

Consulting engagements are scoped around the problem being solved, the responsibility involved, and the capacity required. Time may be tracked internally to manage capacity, but hours are not the product.

04How Hev works

A few operating principles.

01

Start with the problem, not the service

You don't need to diagnose which service you need. Describe what's happening, what isn't working, and what you're trying to accomplish.

02

Scope before work

Before substantive work begins, the objective, scope, responsibilities, deliverables, working relationship, and engagement terms are made clear. Good consulting requires both sides to understand what they're saying yes to.

03

Expertise over hours

You're engaging judgment, strategic thinking, problem solving, and execution capability. Time may be tracked internally for capacity management. It isn't the product.

04

Practical over theoretical

Recommendations account for the actual business: its size, resources, budget, team, maturity, and current systems. The ideal solution isn't always the right solution right now.

05

Strategy should move

Understanding → strategy → building → implementation → refinement, when the engagement calls for it.

05 / Fit

Is this the right fit?

Being clear about this early protects everyone's time.

Generally a strong fit

  • There's a meaningful problem, opportunity, or initiative.
  • Outside perspective is genuinely valued.
  • Enough access and context can be provided to understand the business.
  • Practical recommendations are wanted.
  • Decisions can be made and changes implemented.
  • There's an understanding that real problems sometimes require investigation first.
  • There's a willingness to invest in solving the problem.

Likely not a fit

  • The primary need is task execution rather than strategic or operational ownership.
  • The position is fundamentally structured as an hourly employee role.
  • Unlimited or on-demand availability is required.
  • Recommendations aren't paired with the authority or willingness to implement change.
  • The engagement is expected to guarantee a predetermined financial result.

Share enough context for Hev to understand the situation. If it looks like there may be a fit, the next step is a conversation.
